Why Gaga's meat dress is a terrible Halloween idea

Considering copying Lady Gaga's meat dress, which she wore to last month's MTV Video Music Awards, for your Halloween parties next week? A new video from the Newark, N.J.-based Star-Ledger explains why this is a terrible idea.

1. You will spread gross bacteria everywhere.

2. You will drip blood everywhere. As one New Jersey butcher told the reporter, "If it's fresh meat you're going to get blood, juice over everything you touch or sit on so it's not very hygenic."

3. It's surprisingly expensive! It'll take about 50 pounds of meat to cover you, costing you $250 or more.

4. You will be very cold, as there is "no insulating value at all," one of the butchers says.

5. You will be even colder when your whole costume falls apart. Another of the butchers remarks, "Beyond the sanitary aspects, there's the question of connective tissue. I mean, if you're sewing something like this together there's a very good possibility it's going to split through the grain and fall apart."

Luckily, you still have about a week and a half to think of a non-gross costume idea -- our friends at TODAY have a handy costume guide ready to go.

Because Lady GaGa is an idiot and there is no need to emulate a fool like her.

So did nobody notice tht the butchers werent wearing gloves, or are we just ignoring that part?

hear! hear! She is an idiot!

      #2.2 - Thu Oct 21, 2010 10:34 PM EDT

Yes she is an idiot and the less said about said idiot the better. By the way, the butchers are handling raw, not ready to eat, food and therefore aren't required to wear gloves. Check your local health code and don't be so parinoid.

I have absolutely no idea why anyone follows this "fifteen-minutes-of-famer". She's obviously mentally ill.

I have never seen her do anything that was even remotely worth remembering, except when she showed her butt at the end of American Idol. I still can't believe that the show's producers etc allowed that to happen.

Ew, no thanks. It's disgusting, not to mention, a total waste of money, for something you will only use once and cannot ever reuse.

But yeah, the possibility of being mauled by neighborhood dogs should be sufficient reason to avoid that costume.

It would be hilarious to see the neighbor's boxer chasing some idiot in a meat dress, CHOMP!

Then again kids (and adults) today are stupid so I think I'll keep the camera ready ;-)

Uh, yes. Dogs ARE carnivores. Dogs eat lamb, fish, etc... Smart one.

What?!?!? I've had dogs all my life and they are never happier than when I give them leftover steak.

I am continuously amazed at American ignorance in ALL topics. It's like half of the people in this country are retarded. Perhaps that's why crap like Twilight is so popular... vegetarian vampires indeed ;-)

I'm so happy the religious right and conservative T-Bagging morons are so successful in keeping our population ignorant.... NOT!

So Dogs aren't carnivores? Do any of these "Jay Walkers" have their high school diplomas? Coax, we are omnivores...now, look that up.

                #4.7 - Mon Oct 25, 2010 9:45 PM EDT

carnivore , meaning 'meat eater' (Latin carne meaning 'flesh' and vorare meaning 'to devour'), is an organism that derives its energy and nutrient requirements from a diet consisting mainly or exclusively of animal tissue.

Unless your dog eats "mainly or exclusively animal tissue," they are not a carnivore. I don't think dog kibble counts as "animal tissue." Dogs are omnivores, an animal that feeds on both animal and vegetable substances.

stop making such a big deal out of this. first off, i highly doubt anyone was considering wearing actual meat. maybe, if anything meat colored fabrics, as im sure costume companies will be creating costumes of this outfit, as they have all of gagas other wardrobe choices.

also, this article is stupid and states the obvious. find something better to write about :)

I don't know why you would use real meat anyway when you can just as easily put the right combination of cloth together to make it look like meat. I don't know why anyone other than lady gaga would use real meat. I love the lack of common sense that people have.

I can not stand GAGA. She's a copycat of Madonna and is as far from original as they come. I really don't see why anyone would want to dress up like her for Halloween. But what you going to do?

How about also the fact that its a complete waste of food when kids in this country go hungry...if you wear it, it would have to be thrown away...so 50 lbs of perfectly good meat that could have fed upwards of 200 people being wasted...if anyone does this, they are an @!$%#...Lady Gaga as much as I like her for fighting for equal rights for gays and lesbians like me, was quite insane when she did this...

Agreed. While I recognize her need to shock her fans and display it in this comfortable venue, to do so when people are going hungry is over the top. I would hate to think anyone would emulate her choice this time, at least not with real meat.

Actually, the CBS Early Show had a "meat dress" as one of its Halloween costume ideas - they took a graphic of a piece of steak, printed it onto iron-on transfers, and made the dress out of regular material.

Lady Gaga has better technical singing skills than Madonna and a flair for self-promotion.  She also seems to realize that "Lady Gaga" is a creation whose value is due to her fan base.  Too many performers think that whatever they put out should sell a million copies just because of who they are, regardless of whether it's any good.  She gives her fans what they want.

The message of the dress was basically, "Don't let people treat you like meat".

"we all deserve the same cut of meat" i was at the rally in Portland, its a stand on gay rights and a stand against the Dont ask Dont tell. *sigh* she did it for a multitude of reasons, none of which involve trying to influence anyone to do the same as her.

Are people actually planning on using real meat in their costumes? It takes a skilled tailor to sew meat correctly(she has a very talented one), and like the article says, it takes a LOT of meat.

In an interview with the guy who put that together, he says that it actually didn't drip any blood, and Lady Gaga said it was pretty comfortable, although it was kinda cold(not too bad around stage lights for a few minutes, but horrible walking around in fall for a while). I'm sure it comes down to the right choice of meat, & keeping it correctly. Like I said, very talented tailor.

"different is good"....Hitler, Stalin and Osama BinLaden are different" and I wouldn't say they're good.

Excuse me i am a tranny (google msevastarlette) and find some of your commments offensive. Seriously whether she is a hermaphrodite or not its none of anyones beeswax. ITS HER GENITALS NOT YOURS. Im not suggesting that fact that she does. Nor does my oppinion matter because its not my area! My point being. SHUT THE @!$%# UP. The reality is clothes never have to do with someones genitals. THEY SHOULDNT cus thats just gross. ICK. but im not trying to force that on you. Now to the article: WEARING MEAT IS LIKE NO DIFFERENT THEN WEARING LEATHER. ITS JUST A DIFFERENT PART OF A COW. You are all outraged about this yet you dont realize you need to kill a cow to get the hide to. So in reality its no different. Shes not an animal abuser. THE PERSON WHO KILLED THE @!$%#ING COW IS. if she was wearing leather i dont think anyone would be freaking out. Hmm? Ever thought about that?
