It's not like we expect a McDonald's Happy Meal to be the pinnacle of health food. But this is astounding. (That is, if it's true.)
A New York City artist named Sally Davies bought a Happy Meal -- a hamburger and french fries -- in April. She put the food on her living room table -- and decided to watch what happened: not much, actually. She's taken a photo every day since, and the burger and fries look almost exactly the same as the day they were "fresh."
Davies is recording her science-experiment-meets-art-project on her Flickr, and bloggers can't get enough of it.
We can't say for sure whether this isn't a hoax, as a McDonald's spokeswoman is claiming. (And, as it turns out, the lengthy shelf life of the Twinkie is a hoax!) But it's certainly something to chew on. (Sorry.)

Eyuk!! Hey, and why do those fries look like they've been moved?? How could we feed our kids this dead garbage!
I've been noticing that bread no longer molds too. It seems to be fairly fresh after some weeks, but in the wrapper, not out in the air.
I saw this article last night. It is a bit frightening! No more McD's for us!!!
It may "look" about the same - but it should be inedible, especially since it has been stored at room temperature.
A hot dog lasts 40 years.
I call a fake. A friend has setup a trial just like this one with completely different results. (http://dangerwill.blogspot.com/2010/08/mcdonalds-hamburger-experiment-update-1.html?zx=66f9a949edb2b9a8)
There is no food, no matter how filled with preservatives, that will last 6 months without getting moldy.
Not true, we tried it with some food from Wendy's and it never molded. It is hard as a rock. We even stored it in a ziplock baggie and the moisture didn't even cause it to mold.
Sorry, @Joe, but it all depends on the atmosphere where it is kept. In a dry place -- like a high desert -- with no moisture introduced, that stuff can virtually mummify. The thing is it's not just McD's food -- it's anything that doesn't have a lot of natural moisture in it already. The dry heat basically turns it to rocks lol.
Bingo! I have a mummified BANANA (completely intact with skin, stem, and Chiquita sticker) that 's now more than TEN YEARS OLD and went that direction in a hospital office! That's how dry the air is. No mold, no smell. It's just black and wrinkly. Great conversation piece!
Pics or it didn't happen.
:)
I too call a fake. Still photography means that you leave the 'objects' to be photographed UNTOUCHED; what happened, did the kid get hungry?
Who has to wash the dishes? Yuk!
Very questionable as to authenticity. The items in the photos have definitely been rearranged. Even with the different angles it is obvious the fries are different in their orientation in the two shots. From these photos it's difficult to tell but it looks as if the creases in the bun are different giving the impression they are not the same. But angle and detail of these pics really make it impossible make a more than a guess.
As to mold on the bread, or the whole meal for that matter; in a cool well air conditioned room with constant air flow everything would rapidly dry out. The high salt content of the fries and meat, along with the oil saturation, once they dry out act to further preserve the food. In a dry enviroment the bread would not mold.
hmm now lets make a dress out of that burger XD
Here is an article for a 12 year old burger
