Woman pregnant with two babies -- and they're not twins

Utah resident Angie Cromar has a rare condition called uterus didelphys, which means she has a double uterus. And right now, there's a baby in both of them, each at different stages of development. One is five weeks and four days along; the other is six weeks and one day along, reports ksl.com, the website of NBC affiliate KSL-TV 5 in Salt Lake City.

Although pregnancy in both uteruses is rare -- the chances are about 1 in 5 million -- this isn't the first recorded case. Nor is it the weirdest. In 1981, a woman with uterus didelphys became pregnant with triplets, two in the left uterus, one in the right. Babies on the left were delivered on the same day, two hours apart; baby on the right was delivered 72 days later. And in 1961, a woman with two uteruses, two cervices and two vaginas delivered two healthy babies. But even women without uterus didelphys can become pregnant with twins-that-aren't-twins. Last year, an Arkansas woman named Julia Grovenburg conceived while she was already pregnant, an example of a rare condition called superfetation.

OMG, two Uteruses? Please tell me those poor women don't have two periods starting separately. I can't imagine having to entertain 'Aunt Flo' for two different sessions.

I too have a double uterus, double cervix and double vagina... AND YES I do get two periods a month.. one at the beginning and one two weeks later. Both are accompanied by PMS too, I'm just glad I have a boyfriend that is understanding. Lucky for me that my pregancy was a single birth! I can't imagine having two babies 72 days apart!

Woman who has a double uterus do not mix - if she have a baby in both of them, each at different stages of development - and every one of them from another man - despite of she is a wife - if she could be accused of adultery

Only by small-minded husbands or boyfriends...

By which definition are they not twins? Twins include babies gestating together with different fathers. Some twins are born at separate times. one mom, multiple babies- yes they are twins. Nothing says babies have to be co-habitating the same uterus. Some twins are carried by separate mothers (IVF). With egg implantation, some twins are born decades apart.

Worse, the video says she has two uteri and two bellies. Yeah right, two bellies, hahahahaha. Bellies and uteri are not the same thing. Try a wee bit of biology.

@niteowl26 and STAN PONTUS - why in the world would you people even post this kind of crap? This story makes no mention of whether she was married or not, or anything about the rest of her situation - why do you have to jump to conclusions and say things like that? Neanderthals!

This story is biologically fascinating. I would NOT want to have two uterus' (uterii?); heck, the one I have now gets on my nerves lol. But what's with all of the comments regarding the paternity of the babies? That's not the point of the article!

I had a friend who had this condition.  She didn't conceive simultaneously, but her menses were terribly painful and were twice a month ... she was big on exercising, eating right, and taking lots of vitamins to keep from being chronically anemic ... and when she had a hysterectomy, her insurance had to pay for a DOUBLE hysterectomy.

The first time I ever heard of this condition, I was a young teacher in Sunday School and had two girls in the same class who claimed they were sisters by the same mother (AND same father for you assuming-all-women-are-whores people) , and their birthdays were only 5 months apart.  They really had to convince me they knew their own birthdays, I'd never heard of such at thing at that time.

So rare, but not unheard of.

Maybe it's inconceivable (no pun intended) to the folks leaving those retarded paternity posts that people in a monogamous relationship could possibly have sex that frequently.

I just had boy/girl twins in february and when I had found out, the doctor told me they were conceived between 4-5 days apart... which is no where near as extraordinary as this story, but when I told my co workers about there being days between their conception, it spread like wild fire that they had different daddys... I htink people just like taqrnishing a beautiful thing

I have a birth defect that caused my uterus to divide into 2 separate uteri (sp?). And this story is what I had nightmares about during both of my pregnancies!! Fortunately for her, they were conceived close enough that it should not cause too many complications when the babies are born - hopefully. I wish this mother and her family all the best. Babies are a blessing & they come into this world, into our lives under different circumstances.

I'm not surprised that paternity came into the conversation here. It's unfortunate, & I hope the family was hurt by those comments.
